DIY Chalk Paint | Repurposed Vintage Barn Window

You may look at the before picture of this vintage window and think ‘What hunk of junk!”. Nope, not me. I see past the ugliness and see right to it’s beauty. The potential it has to be restored and beautiful once again.

Items like these don’t come around everyday, so when you find them for $10 you snag them up and do what you can to salvage history.

I love this window and it still may have some flaws but none the less it’s the time and work I put into it that makes it even more meaningful to me. My mother was the ultimate DIY Junkie, I learnt a lot from her growing up. I remember watching her pick up furniture off the side of the road. I’d always slouch down in the car shielding my face, hoping no one would see me and my mother picking up junk. I was so so embarrassed, yet the tables have turned and I have turned into my mother. I have the genetic urge to take older things and make them pretty again, giving them some new life!

I’m amazed by Chalk Paint. It’s one of the best inventions for DIY’ers. Here is an easy DIY Chalk Paint Recipe that I love and swear by when in a pinch!

  •  1 Cup Latex Paint
  • 3 Table Spoons of Cold Water
  • 1/2 Cup Baking Soda

Mix together and paint, sometimes I add a primer before hand and a sealer just to make sure it’s safe and protected!

  1. This looks good! I redid a dresser in my house using a chalk paint recipe I found online. I couldn\’t believe it was SUPER EASY and so much cheaper than the \”real\” chalk pain they sell in stores. Cheers!

  2. Love this! Can\’t believe it was easy to make. It really looks like something you\’d get from Pottery Barn. Thanks for sharing. Totally cool and idea!
