Yesterday we tried something new. Snow shoeing! We took the kids to Manning Park and rented some snow shoes. Going into this I knew that I would just be taking it one minute at a time with two kids. We settled outside together and strapped on our snow shoes and off we went. Again, keeping in mind I knew what to expect haha with both kids. So I didn’t get my hopes to up on finding the most exhilarating trails. I kept my focus on small, easy and basically whatever they could manage.
At Manning Park there are so many trails to find. They offer Manning park specific trails as well as BC Parks trails. You could really be going for hours finding cool spots.
If was a beautiful day and the kids did really well. They caught on quick but got tired quick too. So yeah, we found the closet trail that somewhat easy and just headed for it. Things I would recommend before going would be to first visit the website of the place you’re visiting. Find out the cost, hours, weather and directions. Pre-plan your trails. Dress for the weather. Snow pants, winter coat, hat, mittens. Whatever you need wear it and I would quite possibly pack extra just in case. Bring a book bag with compass, bells (animals just in case) water, snacks, possibly flashlight. We always pre-plan or pack just in case scenarios. If kids are being difficult. I’ve had others suggest bringing treats in your pocket to entice your little ones to keep them going!
We will be going back again and next time increasing the difficulty of the trail now that we practiced a little. A very fun activity for kids to do though!
