Fairmont Banff Springs Family Destination Home Away From Home

Daydreaming about the Fairmont Banff Springs has been happening to me since Drew and I took our very first road trip to Banff, years ago, pre-kids! It’s always caught our eye, the beauty, how grand it is. A castle nestled in the landscape surrounding Banff. Last year when we brought the kids for the first time we took them to drive by it and Ella swore she saw Elsa living there! Haha Not only is every kid’s dream to stay here but it’s every adult’s as well.

Lake Louise & Lake Moraine

Two favourite and very popular places to visit in Banff National Park. We’ve been to Lake Louise a few times now and each time we go it never gets old. It’s a classic spot that we love to visit every time we’re in Banff. Now Lake Moraine on the other hand, this was our first time visiting here. Once before it was wayyyy to busy for us to even try and another time was mid-Winter so the road was closed off.

Both of these beautiful lakes are pretty near each other so if you get the chance to visit one chances are you have enough time to get to the other. Once you arrive to Lake Louise there are so many signs pointing you in the right direction that you can’t miss either!

Lake Louise

Yes, we’ve been here about 5 times now. It never gets old. We’ve been in the Summer, Fall and Winter. Winter is my absolute favourite time in Banff so this is another reason why. But I found that this year visiting in Fall it was a sight to see with all the Fall colours taking over.

It’s busy, all the time. I feel like Fall you may be hitting a better time to visit because it’s a smidge less busy. You can rent canoes and in Winter time when the lake is frozen over you can rent skates. It’s open basically all year round!

Lake Louise Fairmont is also located right on the grounds. Visitor’s can look around grab a bite to eat and explore a little bit. There are also a few hiking trails nearby if you’re an eager hiking.

Lake Moraine

Alright, so just down the road from Lake Louise is Lake Moraines road to travel. It takes a solid 15-20 minutes to travel. Not an overly crazy road but I will mention that parking fills up pretty quickly so either decide early morning or late afternoon on your visit. We went late afternoon and snagged a close spot to walk.

We also suggest packing clothes in your car for all kinds of weather. We left and it was a beautiful sunny day by the time we arrived to Lake Moraine it was pouring rain! Which is why we opted out of climbing the rocks for the view. There is more to see than just on the beach here but with two little ones in the rain, we decided it probably wasn’t the best of ideas!

Either way we managed to mark this location off our bucket list and enjoy the views just as they were. Such a gorgeous spot to be!

Getting Back To Exploring The Rocky Mountains Soon…. 6 Spots That Are Family Friendly & That We Love!

{Disclosure this post was sponsored post as part of an collaboration program with Buffalo Mountain Lodge, however all opinions are my own}

We are all getting very eager to start exploring parks again soon, especially Banff Alberta. It is hands down one of our families favourites and we have been enjoying visiting for the past 12 years. Every time we visit we find new destinations to check off our list and continue to keep visiting.

From family friendly to more adult adventures there is so much for everyone to enjoy here and we are very grateful for the outdoors and the beautiful sceneries we often take for granted.

Since self isolation in Canada I know for our family it has been a whirlwind of a lot of different things and knowing that one day soon we’ll be able to travel again and explore has us very excited. We love to try new things and visit new places in Banff.

Today I’m sharing with you a few that we love, maybe you’ve been before and have memories to share from these special places or it could be a destination you’d like to visit either way soon we will all be able to get back to exploring the rocky mountains.

  1. Lake Louise

A classic and a must see every single time. It always amazes me. Summer time being able to rent a canoe and Winter on the chance, a frozen lake to rent skates on. Either way we are never disappointed by the beautiful scenery we all can enjoy!

  1. Banff Gondola

So much FUN! We love the Gondola ride and can easily spend a whole day at the top of the mountain exploring and hanging out. It is one of our favourites to visit. The scenic walk around the boardwalk is just enough for our family.

  1. Two Jack Lake

This drive is a beautiful one we love to take. We stop and just take our time exploring and taking in all the views.

  1. Lake Minnewanka

Located just before Two Jack Lake it’s like your hitting two of the most beautiful spots in one visit. With trails and views it’s easy to soak up a whole day adventuring this area.

  1. Bow Falls

Bow Falls is easily the prettiest! You can be sure to see some pretty views here and it’s a great spot to let the kids run free and explore while stretching their legs. Love this spot, being able to visit around the river or walking the trail! Can’t wait to come back here soon!

  1. Tunnel Mountain

Tunnel Mountain is by far the best spot to see some great views of the rocky mountains. Only minutes away from Buffalo Mountain Lodge. It’s one of our favourite spots too stay when we visit Banff! Driving through this area is the most exciting. It’s just SO beautiful and there are so many places to stop and walk around. Just talking about it makes me so happy.

It’s easily said that Banff is a special place for our family who loves the outdoors. From walking around downtown Banff checking out coffee shops and special shops to finding new trails to take the kids. There is just so much to do and we are eagerly awaiting when we get to come back and take it all in again. We’ve been desperately craving another family trip here and we know that once we get the go-ahead we will be headed straight to the rocky mountains!

Be sure to keep up to date on Parks Canada re-opening dates…

Part 1 | Vancouver -> Calgary -> Banff | Flying Flair Airlines

{Disclosure this post was sponsored post as part of an collaboration program with Flair Airlines, however all opinions are my own}

We are back! We’ve been back from our amazing little family getaway for about two weeks now and I keep finding myself going to photos reminiscing. We really had an amazing trip away with our kids and so thankful we had this time with them and this whole experience.

Drew and I pre-kids use to travel to Banff quite often. We also use to only live like 4 hours away. So in our early stages of our relationship it was our Summer road trip tradition. Since having kids, we haven’t been back. So it was one of my goals to make sure they were also apart of the many happy memories Drew and I once made there. Because once you visit Banff, you want to over and over again it’s that beautiful.

This trip was more than just a regular family trip, it was a really meaningful and reminiscent trip for us. Drew and I felt old memories and we had that chance to make some new ones with our little ones!
