Driving The Cape Breton Cabot Trail | Things To Know & What To Expect

I’m still sitting here a couple weeks after our drive through the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton, trying to figure out how I lived my early life in Nova Scotia and Summer visits, not even touching foot in Cape Breton? It really surprised me that I spent the last 35 years so close to this part of Nova Scotia without experiencing the very Canadian thing to do, drive the Cabot Trail. Of course I always heard of its beauty and saw short clips on TV commercials, thinking ” One day I’ll get there”! Haha Well this past August I got there!

Winter in Whistler | Family Adventure with Mazda Canada

For the first time ever our family packed up and ventured to Whistler for a little Winter vacation. Whistler has always been a fun place for us in the Summer, but we started to think we’d never seen in it in the Winter. Which if you know Whistler its a pretty popular place in the Winter. Massive ski hills and gondolas that explore all the trails. It’s a very fun and exciting place all year long but in Winter it is the place to be. This trip we didn’t get a chance to strap on the skis and snowboard but we defiantly did find some Winter activities to do that were just as fun!

Embracing Mount Royal Hotel Downtown Banff

Being able to escape for a little while to explore areas we love is something that we’ll as a family never say no to. We’ve been having so many great trips to Banff lately for work and each trip we learn or see something new that we haven’t before. Getting to explore and get into nature is really fun for us. Staying somewhere new or even exploring stops that we’ve been before but just love enough to go again and again and again.

A Day Visiting Lunenburg Nova Scotia

To be quite honest to visit Lunenburg, I would have to suggest more than just a day. But growing up around here I spent a lot of time touring this beautiful and charming little Nova Scotia town of Lunenburg. I spent many of field trips as a kid visiting the Lunenburg Fisheries and the Bluenose II when it was docked. This time visiting I really wanted to open up my inner tourist and show my little guy around and teach him the history of this fishing town.

The Perfect Fall Getaway Emerald Lake Lodge

Well we snuck away for about 5 days on our very first longgg road trip with the kids. A total of 6 hours to our first stop visiting Emerald Lake Lodge. We all made it there in one piece thankfully! This was also our first family trip since self isolation and the announcement of COVID. We’ve been very cautious with travelling and felt like things had all been put into place to make things safer now.

Staycation At The Chilliwack House

We’re all about the staycations! Always really have been but with the latest effects of COVID, this year even more so. A few weeks ago myself and three other girlfriends of mine decided we could really use a girls night out. So without travelling to far away we decided to bunker down at The Chilliwack House for the night. Just us girls!

Summer Swimming At Cultus Lake

Every year this is the place to be on hot Summer days! Lucky for us it’s right in our own backyard. But making sure to get there or after the hectic crowds is our specialty! We’ve kind of perfected it at this point. It can get very busy in this area, so we normally scoot down just before bedtime letting the kids get an evening dip in. Still so late in the evening it’s still been very hot and very sunny so its been wonderful this year!

Summer Evenings Enjoying Crescent Beach British Columbia

These little moments enjoying the beautiful places in our own backyard are crucial this Summer with the Covid happenings. We are making every stitch effort we can to still enjoy all the little moments and places that are so close to us including this beauty little spot Crescent Beach.

I say Crescent Beach British Columbia because there is actually a Crescent Beach in Nova Scotia that Drew and I use to visit quite often when we first started to date and it became a special place to us! We even did our wedding photos there!

One day last week we finally had a glimpse of sun and nice weather so my friend Kaila and I packed up our kids one evening and ventured for an adventure! hahaha It was a really sweet time and I’m so lucky we had the chance to spend that time with our friends just exploring and taking it all in. I love spots like this and glad we have this time at home to start taking advantage of exploring here more often creating memories.

While here we both took the opportunity to also snap some really cute pictures of our kids together and they turned out so lovely. If you’re in the mood for a little getaway Blackie Spit & Crescent Beach makes for a sweet time. It is the best photography location, literally perfect photo spots all over the place. Just down the road little spots to grab coffee and treats. We will for sure be heading back again this Summer to enjoy some more views and sand in the toes!

Getting Back To Exploring The Rocky Mountains Soon…. 6 Spots That Are Family Friendly & That We Love!

{Disclosure this post was sponsored post as part of an collaboration program with Buffalo Mountain Lodge, however all opinions are my own}

We are all getting very eager to start exploring parks again soon, especially Banff Alberta. It is hands down one of our families favourites and we have been enjoying visiting for the past 12 years. Every time we visit we find new destinations to check off our list and continue to keep visiting.

From family friendly to more adult adventures there is so much for everyone to enjoy here and we are very grateful for the outdoors and the beautiful sceneries we often take for granted.

Since self isolation in Canada I know for our family it has been a whirlwind of a lot of different things and knowing that one day soon we’ll be able to travel again and explore has us very excited. We love to try new things and visit new places in Banff.

Today I’m sharing with you a few that we love, maybe you’ve been before and have memories to share from these special places or it could be a destination you’d like to visit either way soon we will all be able to get back to exploring the rocky mountains.

  1. Lake Louise

A classic and a must see every single time. It always amazes me. Summer time being able to rent a canoe and Winter on the chance, a frozen lake to rent skates on. Either way we are never disappointed by the beautiful scenery we all can enjoy!

  1. Banff Gondola

So much FUN! We love the Gondola ride and can easily spend a whole day at the top of the mountain exploring and hanging out. It is one of our favourites to visit. The scenic walk around the boardwalk is just enough for our family.

  1. Two Jack Lake

This drive is a beautiful one we love to take. We stop and just take our time exploring and taking in all the views.

  1. Lake Minnewanka

Located just before Two Jack Lake it’s like your hitting two of the most beautiful spots in one visit. With trails and views it’s easy to soak up a whole day adventuring this area.

  1. Bow Falls

Bow Falls is easily the prettiest! You can be sure to see some pretty views here and it’s a great spot to let the kids run free and explore while stretching their legs. Love this spot, being able to visit around the river or walking the trail! Can’t wait to come back here soon!

  1. Tunnel Mountain

Tunnel Mountain is by far the best spot to see some great views of the rocky mountains. Only minutes away from Buffalo Mountain Lodge. It’s one of our favourite spots too stay when we visit Banff! Driving through this area is the most exciting. It’s just SO beautiful and there are so many places to stop and walk around. Just talking about it makes me so happy.

It’s easily said that Banff is a special place for our family who loves the outdoors. From walking around downtown Banff checking out coffee shops and special shops to finding new trails to take the kids. There is just so much to do and we are eagerly awaiting when we get to come back and take it all in again. We’ve been desperately craving another family trip here and we know that once we get the go-ahead we will be headed straight to the rocky mountains!

Be sure to keep up to date on Parks Canada re-opening dates…
