DIY | How to make your own recipe book stand

This diy was SO easy you guys!

We used everything that we already had laying around in our shop. Scraps of plywood, paint, screws and wood glue. It was one of those projects that seemed so little but to me, had a big meaning!

10 Things To Thrift

You’re probably starting off by reading this and thinking, why only 10? Well, to start off, I do look for more than 10 things but to be honest I could be here all day writing off everything I look for when I go thrifting. My main goal is to fill my home with cool & unique pieces. Pieces that tell a story with its appearance and feel. I love how vintage items make a home feel a little more lived in. Its that items way of telling us it has a story a past and a future.

I usually make a system when I go to any thrift store and sometimes I just go in to get some mental clarity and search for random things. But my main spots to visit in any thrift store is the home decor section and kitchen. I find so many gold items in these two departments. I then like to hit up the books & furniture section.

DIY How to Install Shiplap Feature Wall | Home Hardware

A little bit about the space…

This is our giant living room wall. Since the day we moved into our first home, this wall has always had me thinking… “feature wall”. It’s long, lacks character, and is a difficult wall to turn into a gallery wall because it’s just so big. We kind of just kept it blank, pondering over what to do…
Until now of course! Drummm roollllll…. We created a shiplap wall! This idea was a seed that had been planted in the back of my mind about 4 years ago, and finally, it happened. We are very excited to share how we went about and created it. It was our first time ever attempting a shiplap wall, and I think we did a pretty good job. Shiplap is just one of those magical things you can easily add to your home, transforming any wall, big or small. It adds so much charm.

Research…

Before we started anything, we did our research. Finding ideas on, of course, Pinterest, laying out the mood boards in our minds, and talking to together on how we envisioned the wall. Once we agreed on the idea of how it would look, we started to research materials and cost at Home Hardware while working on a budget.

For any shiplap wall we totally recommend researching before staring. Make sure you have a game plan for what will work for your home. Everyone likes to install shiplap a little differently as we found on our research journey. A little piece of advice, if your project comes across a few bumps in the road, don’t get discouraged. Make it fun and go back to the drawing board. For us, we found a really great way to make all of this happen at our local Home Hardware. They had everything we needed for the project, and it always makes it easier when you find a place that is a one stop shop for all your project needs.

Tools & Materials….

*Makita Compressor Nail Gun
*Spacers – a nickel could even work!
*MDF Metrie Boards
*Makita Saw
*Beauti-Tone Paint – Here Comes The Bride
*Caulking

We found 1/2inch white primed Metrie Baseboards for our wall and used spacers (nickels) to lay out the sections while pre-nailing pieces up. You’ll see in the photo below the tiny black spots in between each board.

Wall Process | The How To…

  • Work on a clean slate. Make sure the wall is washed down and rid of any dust wall bunnies. Making sure the wall is painted the same colour that you’ll be painting your shiplap is also another handy idea. This way you’re not having to paint the wall through cracks.
  • Remove any baseboards and trim you might have.
  • Pre-cut the boards to the length of the wall, depending on whether you decide to do yours vertically or horizontally. We pre-cut all our pieces and then laid them out and organized them.
  • Once we had the correct number of boards we needed to cover the wall, we placed them up on the wall and added in our spacers to keep them from falling down. They stayed like this until we had the wall covered, measured properly, and positioned straight.
  • Next part, nailing them in!
  • Caulking and filling in over each nail hole.
  • Next, we painted the primed shiplap with Beauti-Tone paint. We used the same white paint we use on all of our walls, “Here Comes The Bride”. Priming the boards makes a world of a difference, it was less work for us when painting to have it already primed.
  • Once the paint was dry after sitting for 24 hours, we replaced all of our trim and the baseboards went back up.
  • When all Drew’s hard work was finished, I got to work on my favourite part – decorating!!!

Voila….

And done. I’m so happy with how it turned out. It was fun to find this idea and go with it. The size of your wall will help you decide on whether you want the shiplap laying horizontal or vertical.
After reading some design websites I had a lightbulb idea. Our living room wall already looked and felt long, so going with the traditional horizontal shiplap would have made the wall feel even longer. Going vertical is something new. It’s a little more unique and it makes the room feel the size that it is. It makes the wall appear taller and gives it a cozy feel, which is exactly how I want our home to feel coming into this new fresh Fall season!

Have you installed shiplap in your home before? I would love to hear more about it down below in the comments!

Creating A Cozy Office Space

As soon as our Holiday vacation was over it was really hard to get back into the work routine. Every morning heading to my office downstairs was a little tricky. I wanted to escape this room and lounge on the couch watching tv. One thing that I knew that I needed to do was transform my office into a room that I wanted to get to everyday. A room that excited me and made me feel good.

This is not a sponsored post. I have been surging through creative ways finding deals on home decor because lets face it, we are all broke after the Holidays. But it’s been fun imaging different pieces together and I never really realized how awesome Amazon home decor is. I merely thought of Amazon for baby gear, electronics and random finds. Never would I think that I would find all of these goodies for $100 and under.

Living That King Sized Bed Life | Upgrading with ENDY

It’s been some time now since we decided to make the complete upgrade from Queen sized bed to a King. It was sort of a scary thought to completely change our room. But with many nights of kids crawling into our bed and squeezing their little buns in, leaving hardly any room for Drew and I, causing us to lose sleep or even worse worrying that Ella would fall off our bed because of the lack of room we decided that making a change was imperative.

You know those days where in the middle of the night they squeeze to the side of the bed without warning and yah rollover meaning they roll over! It’s not fun! Our plan to action was always with ENDY! We love their Canadian quality mattresses. They are a forever favourite in this house and changing to a different style was not an option for us. We wanted to stick to our ENDY but bump up the size.

ENDY is actually a family favourite since the kids have grown up sleeping on an ENDY and to them it now feels like home when they sleep on one. We all enjoy the comfort and good sleep we get from sleeping on ours every night. It’s gotten to the point now that the kids bring their ENDY pillows with them when we travel anywhere!

So yes, when you ask us “Do you like your ENDY?” I will always answer with a positive YES. Upgrading to their King sized mattress was the best decision we’ve made and I thank my lucky stars every night that we did so.

If you’re curious, they do offer a 100-night trial sleep to test one out, offer a 10-year warranty and also a down payment plan as well. Making it super easy for you to decide. I know you’ll decide YES like we did. The process is extremely easy once you’ve made the decision and purchased one. It ships and arrives at your door in a box, wiggle it to your room and open it up!

I’m thankful that it is also a really great one-stop shop for everything bedding now giving you selections on mattresses, pillows, sheets, duvet, duvet covers and bed frames now! It’s incredible how this Canadian company has grown into what it is today and I’m proud to stand behind it and everything they offer!

So if you’re in the same boat we were a few months back and not sure if you should just go ahead with that upgrade. Trust me you won’t regret it! A much easier  process than we thought it would be and our sleep has completely changed for the better. Now when kids roll in with us, we all fit nice and cozy together!

Better yet, if you use LOVINGLITTLES50 and get yourself $50 off your next mattress!

DIY Pumpkin Floral Arrangement

Thanksgiving is slowly making its way to us. The thought of family & friends gathering around enjoying each others company and delicious food gets me so excited just thinking about it. Depending on whether you’re hosting or being a guest this DIY will make any table look incredible and such a thoughtful gesture.

I’m sure you’ve all seen this before, the gorgeous floral pumpkin centerpiece. A perfect little addition to any table for Thanksgiving. I think they are just beautiful and after seeing them myself I put this DIY to the test, and decided to try this out for myself just to see how easy and beautiful it can be put together.

Turns out… totally a Pinterest success! This was one easy, two minute DIY that will be worth every minute of making it happen. I’m sharing the quickest and prettiest way I made it all happen!
I’ve gathered a easy step by step down below and hopefully it gives you the urge and inspiration to create this season. Whether you’re hosting or a guest, it’s the best centrepiece to add to any space of your home!

DIY Pumpkin Floral Arrangement

Step 1

Grab your choice of pumpkin. Whatever colour you like and bring it home with a smile on your face!

Step 2

Wash and dry your pumpkin. Making sure all the dirt and debris are gone.

Step 3

Cut a hole on the top! Drew helped me here and made the hole big enough to fit our little glass holder! Clean out the seeds inside

Step 4

Gather around your florals. Any colours you like and start playing with them and blending them together. Cut to the length of the vase.

Step 5

Fill your vase with water and add your flowers inside! To make your flowers last longer I would add flower food. And to make sure to change the water everyday to keep them fresh.

Viola!

Fall Thanksgiving Table Setting | Simple & Personalized

It’s no secret that I love to dress up our dining room for occasions. But it only fits because it’s the place that the family and food all come together. And we all love FOOD! Right! Fall and Thanksgiving deserve a cozy warm feel when it gathers so many wonderful things under one roof. This year I’ve put together a simple yet meaningful setting. It’s simple, personalized with gold Leaf cookies giving us all the Fall vibes.

I also love teaming up with different shops to pull together their best creations and to build something super amazing with it all. Putting our own spin and personality to a room is the funnest part. The dining room is always one of my favourites to do because it’s sort of like a chalk board for every season. It’s the most used room in our house. And when the season wipes clean so does the decor in this room. It’s like starting over and bringing beautiful things together that makes my family happy!

There’s one thing I know about a dining room is that if there’s food they will come and they will eat. If they see the love and preparation into something for them they cherish it and love it just a little more. But mostly they come running for the food…

Together with the help from some really awesome shops that love seasonly decor just like me. We bring you this cute, little personalized set up. Nothing too fancy or over done. Just enough to make this holiday even more special with my family!

I’m so thankful to have worked with such amazing shops, keep scrolling to the end to see who helped make this all happen. And show them some love! You’ll be sure to find some amazing home decor and treats to set up for your next Holiday or get together with help from them as well!
