Johnson Family Self Isolation Diary

Dear Diary,

it’s been 3894 years since being self isolated… oh, that’s not right. Sorry it’s been close to 30 days more like it. Trust me when I say though it feels like it’s been 3894 years. The walls are closing in and I’m going insane. On a softer note, it’s been really awesome having everyone home under the same roof 24/7. We’ve been managing as well as possible considering how much has changed in our daily life and daily routine in such short time.

The kids have taken this week to focus on a better home school routine and figure out what is in store for them for the rest of the school year. Ellas been fairly easy in the fact that she enjoys working on her crafts all day, playing in her room with her toys, snuggling up with the iPad and of course chilling with her bike.

Owen was very excited today because with the help of both of us, we set up his online learning. Where he will find his classmates and teachers on a group chat everyday. He’ll be able to collect assignments, work online and turn everything in. He also gets the chance to do video chat with his teacher and friends. He’s really excited to have been able to connect with everyone and get work accomplished.

For some odd reason to, we’ve been blessed with some amazing weather. Which is so bizarre for our area we live in where it usually rains every day for months in Spring. So we’ve had some good opportunities to get outside clean the back yard and bring out the Summer toys!

Macy cuddles! Everyone loves those. Both kids have been practicing with her and her tricks. Macy has been so awesome listening to them, because she didn’t do it before! Crazy to think that she will be 1 year in July!

Owen also had the craziest hair even before being self isolated. So once we heard the barber shop closed down, we were a little nervous. Never the less Drew brought out his razor kit and went to work. Not really knowing what the heck to do. Just knowing that that kid had to have shorter hair before he started putting it in a ponytail! It’s not perfect but it works.

And FaceTime is non-stop over here. We are getting good use out of face timing family everyday. Ella has just caught on instantly. Owen is our shy boy and a little more embarrassed talking on FaceTime but slowly and surely he’s getting more used to it. Because this is how we see people now! hahah

This whole trip of self isolation and social distancing has been a whirlwind. But our family is slowly starting to sink into the new reality of never leaving our home. We are driving each other crazy that is a given. But when again will we get this opportunity to just lounge at home all day doing the bare minimal with our kids. I’m quite enjoying this. It’s a very simply life and I’m getting used to it.

Movie nights, game nights, reading, playing and fooling around. No schedule or time table needed. The last few weeks I’ve been slowly documenting each day and moment that I want to remember for myself for the kids for Drew. Because I know one day we’ll look back at this chaos and miss it! The nothingness at home with our family.

I encourage you to document everyday, in photos in a journal to look back at one day. I know I’ve seen Time Capsules for kids but I really feel like us adults and parents should also be writing our own!

Take care and be safe!

Experience Better Vision with IRIS & Picking Frames

The start of this year had brought on some exciting news for us… drum roll… we are officially members of the IRIS Vision year long family! We were thrilled with this news. I mean we have always been a huge fan of IRIS and a little sentimental when it comes to using them. They were the first place we had gone to when we first realized that Owen needed glasses. He was turning 5 years old and now 10!

Jones Lake Family Day

Finally, we were so lucky to have such a beautiful day on this day off with the whole family. So we escaped to the quiet, no noise in the middle of nowhere Jones Lake.

We love this view, I mean how could you not! The mountains and fresh air. It’s just so relaxing. The kids had a great time just being free, running around throwing rocks into the water and relaxing.

We needed more days like this. The drive up may have not been the smoothest on this logging road, haha.. But it made for an entertaining drive that’s for sure! But is it really an adventure if it doesn’t scare the shit out of you just a little?? haha

The goofiest faces for photos and off they went to play. Hoping to catch up with more cool mountain drives this Summer with this beautiful, fun family of mine! Possibly camp up here… who knows… start the planning now!

Best Friends At The Park

These two girls have been friends for more than half of their lives. Instant friendship. They’re so similar in so many ways. The sisters they don’t have! They are the cutest little duo together. I’m so thankful for a quick DM to Vanessa like three years ago to hang out and work together on some photos. It has taken us through years of friendship for the four of us! So awesome!

SUNDAY Morning Crepes

To be real honest, I had no idea how easy Crepes were until this morning when the family asked for waffles!! hahaha Waffles seemed like a lot more work so out of lazy-ness and wanting to try something different I started peeking at some Crepe recipes. After noticing I had thankfully all the ingredients I just started it without thinking too much about it.

Surprisingly I always thought Crepes were this totally tricky thing that I just thought I would fail. So this morning it went wayyy better than I thought and defiantly way easier. One thing that I did notice though for this recipe I would double it because this was not enough to fill our bellies.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 Cup Almond Milk
  • 1 Cup Flour
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 TBSP Oil
  • 2 TBSP Sugar
  • 1 TSP Vanilla

Directions

  • Mix all dry ingredients together.
  • Slowly add all other ingredients and mix with the blender until a smooth consistency.
  • Warm your pan, I used the large Paderno pan. Also added a little bit of butter to help with non-sticking.
  • Slowly I poured a half cup of mix into the warm pan and spread the mix to make it really thin.
  • Cook one side for close to two minutes and flip!
  • Spread and enjoy with jam, nutella, fruit! Anything really! We used some maple syrup and Klaassen Farms Blueberry Jam!

Defiantly be prepared to make an extra batch, so maybe double the recipe. Whatever leftovers we have (if we have any) I usually freeze for the next day and early breakfast before school for Owen!

I totally changed my perspective on making crepes. I mean they’re no IHOP but they are still the real deal! Enjoy and let me know if you try the recipe and how it works for you!

TIC TAC TOE Valentines Treats

Okayyyyyy! I’ve started the Valentines Day vibes over here. I’m not one to celebrate every little holiday but I always make a exception for of course Christmas and Valentines Day. Which is something basically imprinted from a very young age with my mother!

I love to be able to create something small and something thats fun and different for the kids to enjoy. Doesn’t always have to be big and beautiful. Or expensive. Something they can do with me.

Today Ella and I had some quiet time and put together some fun things to celebrate. These Tic Tac Toe treats you can enjoy for yourself or even treat your friends. Easy to make and fun to play with!

Coconut Cranberry Bliss | Holiday Mix Drink with Patron

This is the first Holiday post of the year!!

Hard to believe Christmas is so near, I’m still trying to get over leaving Summer behind. Either way it’s coming, and I better be prepared in some way, shape or form. So starting with a little celebratory drink. Something easy, something that chances are you’ll have the ingredients already in your pantry ready to whip out for any occasion. Recently, we were able to attend the Patron Mixologists Event. Where all 4 of Canadas top mixers came together to win our votes on best mixed drink with Patron! It was a fabulous night and with that we even had the chance to bring home a little for ourselves!

Modern FarmHouse Coffee Bar

But First Coffee… does that saying ever get old??

Not for me, this is my everyday. I love coffee and I especially love my Nespresso Vertuo. It is like drinking a tiny cup of heaven every single day and I would NEVER go back to anything else. Its the quality of coffee and the taste of each cup that makes it so much more special! The drink ideas of each are truly endless and it makes it so unique. And so much fun!

Because of this beautiful machine I have decided to put together my own little coffee bar. A place where this baby will reside with love! I put together some pieces that are in my future or already home with me. I can’t wait to share the after! It’s the best feeling having our own little coffee bar in our home, never worrying about leaving or going out!

These pieces are from a few different shops that are currently also my favourite. Links are all added below! Have fun brewing up some love, decor & coffee in your home!
