6 Things To Do While Staying At Long Beach Lodge Resort Tofino B.C

It’s no new fact that our family loves to visit Tofino B.C. It’s one of the most beautiful getaways that really leave you feeling relaxed, inspired and like you really just had a vacation. Normally when we go, we pick a few things that we all really want to check out. We don’t over indulge in the go go go itinerary every trip which is why so many of our blog posts about Tofino spill a new little secret to where to visit. Plus, it’s a growing town things are starting to really bloom and Tofino is just getting started.

The past two trips we’ve stayed at Long Beach Lodge Resort. They offer Rainforest Cottages and rooms to stay in at the main lodge. We stayed at a Rainforest Cottage. It just is the perfect set up for our whole family and the dogs. It’s a big enough place to house us all comfortably. We love the private hot tub, full kitchen and its cozy fireplace. There really are many amenities here in the cottages that we love.

It’s located right on Cox Bay Beach so everyday you’ll find yourself wandering down to explore and take it all in. That’s top of our list while staying at Long Beach Lodge. It’s become our home away from home and we love the relaxed feel the resort gives us.

Today I’m sharing with you 6 Things To Do While Staying At Long Beach Lodge Resort. Things that are nearby and things you can do right there!

6 Things To Do While Staying At Long Beach Lodge Resort

  1. Tofino Bike Rentals | This happens to be located just two minutes down the street. Owen and I walked over on the beach, picked up the beach cruisers and rode them back to the cottage. Locked them up with bike racks right at the cottage it was perfect. You can rent them hourly or daily. These bikes you can ride right along the beach, not of course in the water. But they are street and beach cruisers. So have fun! We doubled our shell searching time on these that’s for sure!

2. Cox Bay Beach Hike | This hike is really hard I’m not going to sugar coat it at all. The kids and I managed to complete a majority of it I think. But again it’s hard and it’s not laid out nicely. When we made it to the top of where we felt comfortable going we felt good because the view was amazing and honestly so worth it. A little side note is that you can find it on the All Trails app and its right outside Long Beach Lodge Resort on Cox Beach so if you don’t get it the first time you could always climb again the following day!

3. The Surf Club | This was our second time hanging out with the Surf Club located right at Long Beach Lodge Resort. We grabbed rentals this time and headed out on our own. The waves this time were much larger and a lot of fun. We kept to the centre of the beach just outside the resort and played in the water and it was great fun. Experience or not I totally recommend trying this out!

4. Electric Bike Rentals | WoW! Okay what fun this was. We rented two electric bikes also. These are not allowed on the beach, but just street and sidewalks. We rode them into town and along the km through the national park. You can rent them through Long Beach Lodge Resort so for sure ask when making your reservation about renting these. Made life so much easier to be honest getting around. Plus just FUN you guys.

5. Canso Plane Hike | This was more of a trail hike, nicely laid out and easy to find. We double checked everything on our All Trails app to make sure we were all good every step of the way and we were. This place is a War Plane from 1945 that crashed just moments from taking off and landed in such a way where everyone inside the plane was able to walk away. It’s incredible and all the pieces lay there still to this day. Very cool to check out. It’s about 5km round Make note: there are no washrooms, or garbage cans along the way so take things out with you and bring water!

5. Amphitrite Point Lighthouse | This visit is a little more than 10 minutes away from Long Beach Lodge Resort and really a favourite of ours. This lighthouse is located right on the sea and along it is a really breathtaking trail of the ocean views surrounding it. Located in Uclulelet! We love taking the kids here so they can run off some steam!

6. Beach Walks | This is a given and one of the reasons why we love it so much here. Drew and I both grew up by the ocean. The ocean was our playground so we take any opportunity to let our kids run free here and share with them the same childhood memories we made growing up!

Thanks to B.C Ferries for always guiding us there and taking such good care of us!

Stay & Play This Summer at Revelstoke

If you ever get an opportunity to visit Revelstoke our family would all agree and say “Do it!”. Go visit. Summer, Winter, Fall, Spring. It’s all beautiful and lovely. We enjoy visiting Revelstoke so much at any time of the year, this was our first visit during Summer. The drive from our place to Revelstoke is about 6 hours. It’s a drive that we love to take. The kids bring their headphones and special bag full of goodies. We also brought Miss Macy with us on this trip and she did so well.

Oh Victoria, We loved you | Our Quick Trip & Places We Visited While There

Oh Victoria, you’re beautiful! And wish that our trip had been longer. But we certainly did manage to fit a lot in our 24 hour stay. The four of us had been planning this trip for sometime now and finally the stars aligned and we made it happen. Next time making it happen a lot longer.

We squeezed this quick trip into two days because while there we got to meet some new puppies, one which will be coming home with us very soon. So it was our visiting weekend. Lucky for us we got to make it a fun family vacation to Victoria. We absolutely love Vancouver Island and take any chance to go visit. Victoria had been one location that we haven’t been to and thankful we got to absorb it all in.

I mean really, we are quite happy if the only things we do there are explore the trails and beaches. But you know us, we like to keep busy and to us experiences are way more rewarding for our family than stuff and things.

These memories our children will grow up knowing for a lifetime to come! Now, let’s get to the good stuff….

Eagle Wing Whale Watching Tours

For years Drew and I have been desperately wanting to explore the Pacific and go Whale Watching. But every time it seemed like one of our littles were way to little to go aboard. Until now. We found a really awesome, well recommended whale watching tour in Victoria that accommodates all ages. Eagle Wing Tours is the best!

It was perfect. This boat was covered just in case it rained or became too cold. The kids could easily go inside or outside to enjoy the sun and ocean breeze. From afar we got to see a family of 6 killer whales, 2 humpback whales and lots of seals swimming in their natural habitat. Videos over on Instagram

The Rootcellar & The Coffee Project

Randomly, we stumbled into this awesome grocer and coffee place. The Rootcellar and The Coffee Project. Tons of great produce, lunches and just about everything to make a really delicious meal. We ended up going twice! It was great. Grabbing coffee’s on the way out. Our family does love picking up our own stuff before dining out. Totally recommend this place!

Hotel Zed | Victoria

Gahhh, this place has been on our travel bucket list for awhile now Hotel Zed and so happy we got to spend the night here. It is absolutely the coolest retro-vibe hotel ever. The first thing that everyone loved when pulling up was all the bright colours. It was a show stopper. The pool, the waterslide and the hot tub.

Ping pong table and board games. Long boards and laundry room. Free parking & free coffee! I could go onnnn. Everyone is so chill and relaxed. So easy going. We loved the vibes and our stay here. We all slept like babies and some more than others!

Honestly, its in such a perfect location too. Right across from Mayfair Mall, not that far down from downtown Victoria. If you’re looking for a fun eccentric place to stay go here!

Fishermans’ Wharf

The coolest spot! If you do go to Eagle Wing Tours you will have to go here. It’s such a cool little hidden spot we never knew about. Loaded with tons of parking. The water taxi is located here. So many awesome seaside restaurants to eat at. Ice cream. So much!

Everything is located right on the wharf along with some really pretty colourful houseboats and sail boats. We loved the energy in this cute little spot!

Victoria Scenic Drive

This is basically it, the most beautiful scenic drive ever. It really reminds us of Nova Scotia, back home if you just drive along the coast you end up finding the most beautiful beaches and spots to tour. Thats what we did. Went beach hopping along this scenic drive. Stopping to throw rocks and explore a trail. You just follow the signs…

Parkridge Doodles

Our final stop before heading home, Parkridge Doodles. We have been connected with this sweet golden doodle breeder for sometime now and have completely fell in love with this place. The puppies, the owners, the love and quality. So good! So we decided to add a new family member…more on that coming soon…

We had the opportunity to visit and connect up close with the puppies and while there, of course take photos of puppies… so we did!

We did it all. Packed everything we could into this tiny little visit. And it was all worth it! We already have a million other places we want to visit when we go back….

{ Hotel Zed & Eagle Wing Tours were both gifted experience’s to enjoy}

Places To Visit In Whistler With Kids & A Budget | Vallea Lumina Giveaway

Let’s be honest here, travelling with kids is not usually the most relaxing thing in the world. It isn’t always the easiest or the most thrilling. Trust me, we’ve been there! This recent Whistler trip just didn’t exactly go our way the entire time with kids fighting, rain, thunder & lighting, fire ban… etc. But there were a few things that went our way… our visit to the night walk Vallea Lumina, the fun tent experience, the lake just relaxing…

Day Trip Visiting Manning Park

Well, today was a fun one! Yesterday we got home from camping and today we went right back to exploring. The four of us jumped into the Acura and headed to the road. To Manning Park! We have been before a few times but always in the Winter and usually heading up to snowboard and go sledding. So it was super cool seeing it all in the Summertime.

Lightning Lake

First stop was Lighting Lake. So gorgeous! It was sunny and perfect out. It’s the cutest little spot for a day trip and picnic. The kids loved just walking around and next time we go I really want to rent a kayak with them!

Alpine Meadow

After touring around the lake we headed to Alpine for a little tour. This road took us up to the highest point of the mountain and overlook the whole area. It was breathtaking and completely worth the drive. It was a little scary watching Ella try to be a risk taker. But she reminded us she was just sitting!

This place is so nice no matter what season! Best part limited service to be totally disconnected!

Ultimate Family Stay with The Cove Lakeside Resort | Kelowna

We were eagerly awaiting this little destination trip with the entire family to The Cove Lakeside Resort located in West Kelowna. Our drive was quick and beautiful, so much scenery. The views of the mountains and lake was so nice to see. This was our first time travelling to Kelowna and visiting. It didn’t disappoint that is for sure.

Settled right on the edge of Okanagan Lake is this wonderful resort that is full of amenities, the location couldn’t be anymore perfect and the staff that work here totally have my heart. They were so accommodating and helpful. So eager to make sure that we had the perfect stay with them. I will always be super thankful for how great that made us feel by visiting. Oh I should also mention free parking!

The Cove Lakeside Resort is filled with things to see and things to do. Starting with their BonFire Restaurant. The Spa At The Cove, which one evening I even had the chance to sneak away to and receive an hour long massage. It was hands down the best massage I’ve ever had. So good to the point of falling asleep and waking up feeling in a relaxed fog all evening. I literally walked away and left all my stress. It was magical.

The boys even had their chance to adventure with LakeSurf Okanagan, located just beside The Cove Lakeside Resort at the marina. They rented a double kayak and went out for an hour around Okanagan Lake in the beautiful sunny weather. They also rent out boats, paddle boards, kayaks and more. We had the friendliest and most helpful service to. The boys enjoyed the assisting and being able to sneak away to take it all in.

Once they returned we all dipped into the outside pool or should I say poolsssss. Just outside in the front they have the best swimming area for the family. With tons of lounge chairs, umbrellas and two pools to cool off in one even having a long winding waterslide Owen loved!

With that they also have a hot tub, plus a fitness centre that also has it’s own hot tub…. and I’m not even down there! hahaha We even got to spend a little time in their private movie theatre equipped with a big screen and rows of lazy boy seating. And the perfect pairing is their snack baskets to purchase while watching your movie pick!

Like I said there is so much to explore just at The Cove Lakeside Resort. It’s perfect for families and meeting friends for a fun stay. They also provide bike rentals, tennis court and putting greens. Located just off to the side is the lake front beaches that connect to a walking trail that also leads into a park for the little ones! And if you feel like exploring the trail some more towards the other end leads you to docks and one more park!

Can’t forget our rooms! They were so full of space. With a full amenity kitchen, dining room, play area and office. With three full bedrooms that also have closets and full bathrooms. No fighting over who gets the better room because they were all the best. Moms, you will enjoy this, but they also provide laundry!! Single washer and dryers were located in our own room!! Squeal of joy when I saw this. Every trip there is always someone using up way to many outfits and getting dirty within two seconds. hahaha

If there’s one thing I love about vacation is being able to keep the little ones busy, having fun and relaxed. Drew and I both agreed though if all we did all weekend was relaxed on the suite porch over looking the lake drinking coffee and watching the kids play. That would’ve been just fine with us! But of course we toured around Kelowna to see what the busy, beautiful city had to offer and I will most defiantly say there is more to come…

This Summer if your planning your next stay in the Kelowna area I would for sure put The Cove Lakeside Resort on your bucket list of places to stay! You won’t want to leave!

Knowing What To Do When You Smell Natural Gas with FortisBC

It’s very important to understand what to do if you small natural gas in your home. Making sure you make all that right steps and precautions so this doesn’t happen in your home is right here for you. If by some chance it doesn’t happen to you, can you fully admit that you are prepared, you know what to look out for and what to do?? I’m very thankful for a handy husband and for the education that FortisBC has given us about Gas Safety.

As a family we’re always making sure we’re up to date and know what to look for when it comes to natural gas leaks. My husband is always on top of things, which had me thinking… Do I know what to look for or know what to do if I smelled natural gas when he wasn’t home? I really started to make sure that I read and researched everything I could to help myself. I followed him around our home and made sure I knew of the possibilities of where a leak could come from.

I think that it’s really important and handy to know what to do when you smell natural gas. Just having that peace of mind helps our family feel safe. Thankfully FortisBC has given and provided a lot of information and resources to help us out! Natural gas is a sneaky one as it’s odourless and colourless, trace amounts of a chemical called mercaptan that smells like rotten eggs is added to help you detect a potential natural gas leak.

So let’s get started on a few things. Now that you kind of have an understanding of natural gas safety, let’s talk more on what to do if you smell rotten eggs, and some precautions to help you before you smell it!

Know What To Do If You Smell Natural Gas:

  • Before anything right now what your sitting on the computer research and watch some great videos courtesy of FortisBC http://bit.ly/GasOdour they have been a huge resource for our family.
  • If you or a loved one smells rotten eggs, stop what you’re doing
  • Leave your home
  • Call FortisBC’s 24 hour emergency line 1-800-663-9911 or 911

Taking measures before you detect natural gas is the best idea for all homeowners. Our family has gone through all the steps and listed what we have done below just to be sure.

Things To Do Before You Smell Natural Gas:

  • Do your research make sure you read articles like this one or watch videos just to help educate yourself and your family.
  • Get annual maintenance on all your natural gas appliances and equipment
  • Write up “what to do” and emergency contact numbers for when you’re not home and a babysitter may be home or the kids are alone.

As long as you’re keeping up to date with your home inspections, resources and know what to do you’ll feel better as a parent. It can happen to anyone, knowing you’ve taken the right measurements and used the resources available from FortisBC will give you peace of mind!
