The Importance of Ophthalmologists

Looking back 5 years ago – I wish that I would’ve taken eye care a little more seriously. When Owen was a baby we did all of the check-ups and appointments for his health and well-being. Except for one, his eyesight. Owen didn’t have his eyes examined until he was five years old and starting his first year of school. We just assumed that his eyesight was good since he showed no signs of struggling. Shortly after that exam, he was set up with a pair of glasses and ever since then, I’ve carried a lot of guilt around with me.

You should never just assume your eyes are ok without seeing a professional. Following a general eye appointment with an optometrist, some Canadians might be referred to see an ophthalmologist. The more I learn about how important ophthalmologists are, the more proud I am that we actually get covered services from them. If you ever have any worries that your eyesight is being difficult or any potential diseases in your family history, rest assured you’re in good hands with a physician from the Canadian Ophthalmological Society. If you’re referred, you can have an appointment scheduled with a local ophthalmologist who will help take care of you. From your first examination, to surgeries, medications post-op exams, etc.

Your ophthalmologist will be with you from beginning to the end of your eye health journey. As the leading experts in this field, they specifically study and know everything about eyes. Like I said earlier, they are SO important and therefore we are so lucky that as Canadians they’re accessible to us. Whether you’re old or young, it simply doesn’t matter. The importance will always be the same. I think nowadays it’s a little scary how much screen time we all have and the harm that it’s causing for our eyes and our children’s. It’s never too late to take the right steps in helping to heal or prevent any damage.

As if ophthalmologists aren’t busy enough, but a great deal take the time to welcome students to their offices to help guide and teach them. In addition, many ophthalmologists are also professors and contribute a great deal to research that is used to constantly innovate eye care. If I’m ever in need, at any occasion in life, I feel very blessed knowing that ophthalmologists are there to help. Eyesight and eye care health is the most important and it’s even more beneficial if something is caught early, so don’t ever hesitate on your appointment or withdrawal from any fear you have. They will guide you and walk beside you through any procedure. People – love your local ophthalmologists!
