Make That Media Kit | Tips On Making Yours

So before I get started, defiantly not an expert, I’m writing this as someone who has gone through many hours of research and creating. Starting little and then working my way up. This just gives you an idea on how I’m directing mine and making more of an effort to create one. Still not exactly how I would like it but I feel like many things it will constantly be a work in progress. I love the idea of a media kit. When I first started I for sure thought it was a bit extreme but the more and more I started to do the more I realized that having one is key to getting more!

You may not see the value in it 100% but even if you may feel like it can be a waste of time, know that it is worth it if only for yourself. If only to compare through the years and numbers. The accomplishments and good work you’ve done to grow that media kit to where it is! It’s like a version of a resume/working journal for yourself. Not only does it also look very professional its always nice to have one just in case your asked “Can you send us over your media kit!”

Whether your a blogger/influencer/photographer I think it’s essential to create one that you love and that your proud of sharing to companies. Over the last three years i’ve gone through some really bad ones when at the time I thought we’re really awesome, the more we grow and our style changes so will your media kit! It creates a wonderful way to communicate with sponsors and puts your professional foot forward to showcase your triumphs, personality and what makes you unique and good at what you do!

Now to get started, I honestly love using Canva, that’s where I go to create a lot of what I do. It’s easy for me, I’ve spent a little while playing around with it. Thats the funnest part about it! Getting creative! Defiantly play around with it and spend some time researching different Media Kits. You may like bits and pieces from others to create your own and thats fine to. It’s what your putting on it that really matters!

Old Media Kits

Here are two examples of old media kits I’ve done in the past when I was VERY new to blogging ha. Kind of embarrassing to leave here but I wanted it to be an example of how much can change in just a little bit. Everything included in each of these made me proud to share and each one has changed just a little bit! I always love to look back and reminisce a little and it’s so motivating to watch my numbers grow, my style and how much work I’ve put into creating this!

This is the first Media Kit I ever made in early 2015
This is the second Media Kit I ever made in 2016!

What To Include:

  • Use a photo of yourself, your family or a small amount of sample photos of products that you have taken photos of for reviews and/or blog logo
  • Blog statistics, blog traffic, page views, mailing list reach, social media links & social media statistics
  • Introduce yourself
  • Make sure to add your blog link & email!! Very important! ha
  • Describe your blog style and what you create there
  • Outline sponsorships you’ve worked with in the past
  • Outline any specific details or guidelines you want followed
  • You can add your rates for specifics like blog posts, social media sharing, giveaways etc.
  • Partnership Opportunities; Leave what you can offer them!
  • Add any feature that your really proud of, ones that made a really big impact for you!

Tips:

  • Make drafts and play around with different features, fonts, colours, photos etc!
  • Research!! Browse all kinds of different styles of media kits and use pieces of each that are your favourite to create your own.
  • Sell Yourself! Don’t be afraid to add positive achievements that you worked really hard on.
  • Add all things you feel completely comfortable doing and working on!
  • Give yourself options to different avenues for things you can work on. Think multi-tasking!
  • Make it look eye catching and pretty. You can even add links to previous campaigns you worked on. Ex; if your looking to work with a travel company and you have in the past, use your past links to show some examples of what you can do!
  • Keep it compact as much as you can with adding everything you want!

  1. This is so incredibly helpful. I actually shied away from an opportunity because they asked for a media kit. I did hours and hours of research and could not find a program that let me manipulate it the way I wanted. I’m definitely going to give Canva a look

  2. Hello ,

I saw your tweet about animals and thought I will check your website. I like it!

I love pets. I have two beautiful thai cats called Tammy(female) and Yommo(male). Yommo is 1 year older than Tommy. He acts like a bigger brother for her. 🙂
I have even created an Instagram account for them ( https://www.instagram.com/tayo_home/ ) and probably soon they will have more followers than me (kinda funny).

I wanted to subscribe to your newsletter, but I couldn’t find it. Do you have it?

Keep up the good work on your blog.

    Regards

  3. Very pretty media kit! I immediately fell in love when I found Canva – so easy and makes me look professional (even though I completely lack in the creative field!). I like your set up and the personal photos put a touch on it that shows your personality!

  4. Thank you for being genuine and showing us the comparisons of your old and new media kits. I think being able to see the progression and changes really is helpful when contemplating your own media kit.

  5. I haven’t had a media kit in a few years but my old ones looked very much like your first one. I don’t know why I don’t have one now but I definitely need to work on that!

  6. You nailed this one! I love the transition to the newer, classier media kits these days. I refused to ever make one before because I didn’t like the styles of anything. I adore a streamlined media kit!

  7. Great info! This is something I really need to do. I’ve worked with brands in the past and want to do more work in the future so this would really help my website.

  8. I love your new Media Kit. Your first ones weren’t bad at all, but this is a big step up. I just made my first media kit in August, and updated it really recently. But this gives me some inspiration for the next time I adapt it.

  9. Thank you so much for including your media kits over time. I’ve hesitated creating mine because I’m a little overwhelmed. This was super helpful!

  10. I’ve always heard you should have a media kit to partner with brands. I’ve been a social media influencer and partnered with brands for years, but I’ve never been asked for a media kit. Wait, maybe one request “if I have one” but it didn’t seem that important.

  11. These are great! I’ve been toying with my media kit, but i’ve only had to send it over once. Definitely might re-do mine with your tips!

  12. I love your current media kit! You have worked with some great brands 🙂 I need to update my media kit soon, and will definitely be using your tips.

  13. Great tips and examples. It really helps to see where you started with your media kit and how you’ve evolved. I think the hardest part is designing the kit. You want it to have all the pertinent info while also looking professional and an extension of your brand.

  14. This is super helpful, even for a fairly new blogger like me that doesn’t have the audience you do!! I really love your layout and how you styled these, especially the second and third versions!

  15. I think those media kits that you shared are lovely. A good media kit helps close deals with brands which is why it’s really important that we put an effort into putting it all together. I appreciate all your tips!

  16. These are great options! I made my own media kit template years ago and have stuck with it for quite awhile. I don’t have my demographics noted and should probably make some changes!

  17. This is such a great post. I think I need to get my media kit. and will definitely save all these tips. Thanks for sharing!!
